Mr. Ahmed Abdulqader Al-Ahmad
Ahmed Abdulqader Al-Ahmed assumed the position of CEO of Qatar Aluminium Limited (Qatalum) in February 2026. He possesses diverse leadership experience spanning more than three decades in the energy and industrial sectors, with expertise encompassing exploration, production, refining, strategic planning, project management, governance frameworks, and operational excellence.
Prior to joining Qatalum, he served as Chief Executive Officer and Board Director of Qatar Fuel Additives Company (QAFAC) since November 2020. Under his leadership, QAFAC implemented key initiatives and achieved major milestones focused on safety, operational excellence, financial performance and cost optimization. He made substantial contributions to building and maintaining an exemplary safety record and fostering human capital development within the company. He also spearheaded QAFAC’s efforts, in coordination with QatarEnergy to successfully transform the QAFAC into a 100% Qatari-owned joint venture.
Ahmed Al-Ahmad has over 34 years of diverse experience in the oil and gas industry, including exploration, field development, project management, strategic planning, downstream industries, and investment and acquisitions in the exploration and production sector.
He joined QatarEnergy in 1992, holding several leadership roles within the company and its subsidiaries. He also oversaw monitoring and well operations In QatarEnergy’s offshore fields. He was subsequently appointed Deputy General Manager at Occidental Petroleum Qatar Limited (OPQL), before leading international exploration and production growth activities with Qatar Petroleum International (QPI). Following the merger of QPI with QatarEnergy, Ahmed returned to QatarEnergy in 2015 to lead and manage its international exploration and production assets and projects. He also continued to build the international exploration and production portfolio through both organic and inorganic growth, in addition to leading local exploration projects.
Thanks to his extensive experience across the energy value chain, he has played a key role in developing strategic initiatives and improving operational performance in the organizations he has worked for. He currently serves as a board member of several energy sector companies.
He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Petroleum Engineering (with honors) from King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals, Saudi Arabia.
